New Client Info/What to Expect
If you are a new client (or new to massage therapy, in general) you might find this helpful.
- Linda will have you fill out a client intake form to determine your overall health and your desired results from massage therapy and will assess your needs, and explore your motivation in getting massage, including your health goals.
- This might include obtaining information about your physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, stress levels and any areas of physical pain.
- This information helps to determine how to structure the session to achieve your desired results.
- After the intake time is complete, you’ll be given the privacy to remove clothing to your level of comfort and get on the massage table under the covers.
- You will remain fully draped for privacy and Linda will only expose the area that is being worked on. Private parts remain fully private at all times.
- The massage table is padded, and may have extra attachments or cushions, such as a face rest, which allows you to lie facedown without turning your head or neck. There may be a heated pad, which can be adjusted to your comfort.
- Expect a peaceful and comfortable environment for the massage. Music may be played during the massage. Some people enjoy the music, and some don’t. If you prefer silence or different music, ask to turn off or change the music. Whether to talk or not during the session is also up to you.
- The massage technique or modality used will depend on what is determined best for your situation, and Linda will check in with you throughout to make sure that the pressure being applied feels positive. At any time, you may speak up and ask for adjustments.
- She may use oil or lotion, which reduces drag on the skin while performing the massage strokes. If you are allergic to oils, lotions, or scents, let her know before your massage begins.
- Depending on your needs, she will massage either the full body (except for private areas) or only specific areas that need attention, such as especially tight muscles.
- A typical table massage session is usually a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 90 minutes.
- At the end of the session, Linda will leave the room, advising you to slowly get up and then get dressed (in privacy.)
- It’s helpful to drink plenty of water after a massage but, if you don’t carry a water bottle, water will be provided.
- If you have any feedback, you may give it at this time or float off in a peaceful state of being . You may also choose to schedule another appointment at this time as well.
